I just caught the internet studying me, and I can prove it has been doing it for over twenty years.
It started with something small. I was inside my YouTube settings, cleaning up my channel for monetization, and real estate kept surfacing where it had no business being. This channel is built entirely around AI. I set it up that way on purpose. Nothing on it points to my real estate career, except one post, a congratulations to a client, and that single post outperformed almost everything else. I kept asking why.
So I went into the settings, into the keywords that tell the platform who I am. AI Creator. AI Music. AI Educator. AI Tutorials. Everything there said AI, except for one thing. My name. I have been a licensed broker for over twenty five years, so long before I ever touched AI, the machine had already learned my name as a real estate name. When I typed my own name into the keywords meant to surface my AI work, the system reached back two decades and pulled me toward the thing it already decided I was.
That is the part I need you to sit with. AI did not arrive in 2022. It has been cataloging all of us for decades. Your name online is not just a name. It is a file the system has been building since the first time you logged on, and most people have never once looked inside theirs.
Here is what I see every single day. Doomsday videos promising AI will end the world in thirty days. And right next to them, the people too afraid to open the app at all, leaving fear in every comment. I understand the fear. It is valid. This tool is powerful, and power without understanding has always frightened us. But the answer to a powerful tool has never been hiding from it. The answer is learning to direct it. The people making the doom videos and the people refusing to touch any of it gave away the exact same thing. They gave up the director's chair. I kept mine. The people building with it kept theirs. Technology serves the person commanding it, and I command mine.
Now the part I promised, because this one can reach you, and it is built for the person still learning, not the person who already lives in this world.
If you use an AI assistant, do not give it automatic access to your email or your files. Someone can send you a message with instructions hidden inside it, written for your AI and not for you. Your assistant reads that message and can be tricked into following those buried instructions, handing over your information without you ever knowing it happened. You would never see it.
Your protection is one word. Ask. Set your assistant so it must ask you before it touches anything, your accounts, your files, your money. The director approves every move. The moment it acts without asking, you are not the director anymore.
Technology should serve humanity, not own it.
